Wildcrafting Wednesdays
A program brought to you by a partnership between One World Adventure, Seven Pines Survival and DeSoto State Park. 
Wildcrafting is a term for the age-old practice of collecting plant materials in their natural habitat for food, medicine, and craft. These classes are for anyone to build wildcrafting skills and deepen your connection with the natural world. It's also a great program for home-school groups that will help students develop their observation skills, critical thinking and natural intelligence. 
Led by naturalist Robert Wilson, you will learn Wildcrafting from ethical harvesting to creating nature's medicine cabinet. Most of all, you will be participating hands-on in nature, making it a meaningful and memorable activity. What to bring: Water bottle, notebook and pencil, camera (optional) 
Date: August 23, 2017 (other dates to choose from: August 30th)
Where: DeSoto State Park-Fort Payne, Alabama

This walk started in 2014 and is one of One World Adventure’s most popular activities in DeSoto State Park. Join naturalist Robert Wilson for an experiential journey within the forest, taking in every opportunity to learn more about the natural world. Cohutta Wilderness Area Backpacking Excursion

The Cohutta Wilderness is one of the premier destinations in the southern Appalachians for hiking and backpacking. The many creek crossings, mountain vistas, climbs, and multiple waterfalls make this area a dream come true for backpackers and hikers.

There are places to accomplish an easy day hike in the Cohutta Wilderness; however, it's more often a destination for seasoned hikers or backpackers. You'll have the opportunity to do just that with our seasoned certified guides. They will teach you proper backpacking and camping etiquette, campsite preparation, clean water collection, campfire meal prep, and campsite cleanup using the LNT (Leave No Trace) method.

Everything is included in the rental fee except clothes, personal items, & food. We will provide a backpack for you unless you already have your own.

DeSoto State Park Backpacking Trip

Join One World Adventure, Seven Pines Survival, & DeSoto State Park for an exciting weekend of backpacking and camping at DeSoto State Park! The weekend will consist of learning the backpacking and camping basics and will be taught by our very own Naturalist/Survivalist, Robert Wilson. 

There will be two options for this trip: 1. Guided or 2. Unguided.

Guided trips will be lead by Robert Wilson. He will teach you how to do all things camping! Everything from how to pack your bag properly, how to prepare the campsite, how to locate a clean water supply, how to make a sustainable fire for warmth and food preparation, and teach you all about LNT (Leave No Trace). You'll be in GREAT hands with him along for the trip.

Unguided trips will consist of a morning meet-up at the DeSoto State Park's Nature Center. Robert Wilson will meet you here and go over general camping etiquette and procedures along with passing out gear, maps, and answering any questions you may have before leaving for your backpacking trip.

The rental fee includes everything but your clothes, personal items, & food. Backpack will be provided to you.

There is a LIMIT of 6 people for this trip so don't wait to reserve your spot! This is a family friendly event and WONDERFUL for BEGINNERS.

Camp & Climb at Cherokee Rock Village

Our PCIA certified guides are educators and will teach you basic skills of each activity; camping, outdoor cooking, top rope climbing, and bouldering. This fun adventure is designed with the participants skill level in mind! Our goal is for you to feel comfortable in the outdoors and succeed in each challenge set forth.

 The Camp & Climb Excursion includes all meals and snacks. We provide camping equipment (tents, tarps, hammocks), cookware, and climbing gear including harnesses.

Sipsey Wilderness Backpacking Excursion

If you are looking to adventure through forests, canyons, enjoy magnificent waterfalls, scenic overlooks, and rushing creeks then backpacking through the Sipsey Wilderness is just for you! 

Hiking into the Sipsey River Canyon will transport you into another world that you will find yourself never wanting to leave. The area has been called "The Land of 1,000 Waterfalls" and for good reason. Amazing waterfalls cascade down the cliff into the pristine Sipsey River at almost every turn.

The Sipsey Wilderness is a popular place for backpacking and hiking; however, it should be reserved for the relatively experienced hiker or backpacker or even responsible beginner. The Sipsey Wilderness Area contains no shower house or fresh water facilities so make sure you pack plenty of water. Our seasoned certified guides will teach proper backpacking and hiking etiquette, campsite preparation, clean water collection, campfire food prep, and campsite cleanup using the LNT (Leave No Trace) method.

This excursion is worth taking and will guarantee an amazingly unforgettable adventure!

Teen Leadership Camp

Our Teen Leadership Program gives teens life-changing opportunities to take on meaningful outdoor leadership roles within all areas of their life. They will push their limits on a nine-day expedition in the wilderness and grow their outdoor skills, building lasting knowledge and experience they can use throughout their lives. This program is ideal for youth who are going into education or plan to work with youth in any capacity.

This extended expedition gives teens the opportunity to deepen their skills in their favorite adventure sports and all of the other big and little moments—playing games, sharing stories, hanging out with new friends—that make overnight camping so unforgettable.

In addition to the abundance of learning from our staff throughout their nine day session, our teen leaders leave camp with some very a ton of great experience and a strong foundation for future work with kids.

Adventure Day Camp at Nippersink Lodge!! 

Our Adventure Day Camp explores local settings for authentic outdoor experiences with kids ages 7-13. Whether they’re returning or first-time campers, every day is a different adventure—mastering a climbing challenge, hiking a trail, paddling a canoe or kayak—and every activity is leveled to their age and ability.

Grouped by age, campers build confidence and skills when they return to our program week after week and year after year. Ages 7-10 concentrate on getting comfortable with new activities, with plenty of support from our staff and returning campers. Once they reach age 11, campers shift their focus to teamwork, mentorship and broadening their technical skill level.

Led by our highly credentialed outdoor instructors, campers develop the confidence to launch them into a lifetime of exciting outdoor adventure.

This overnight camp is not your traditional camp setting. For ages 9-12, it is designed with kids in mind and are FULL of adventure! Trek and camp all week in amazing locations, learning how to live among a group and take on a range of adventure sports—rock climbing, bouldering, rappelling, canoeing, kayaking!
During this eye-opening, character-building overnight expedition, every day, with every new adventure, they’re figuring out how to thrive in the natural world, pushing their boundaries to discover what they’re capable of, learning how to assess risk and approach new challenges.

It’s an immersive experience that makes a deep imprint on kids, leaving them with lasting skills and new reserves of confidence they can use in all aspects of their lives.

Our Full Moon Paddle is our most popular paddle and is often SOLD OUT far in advance. This event is about 3 hours long starting from check-in time.

The full moon is a celebrated event throughout the area with many gatherings of people who appreciate the brilliance of the moon while it shines its brightest each month. Our Full Moon Paddle has quickly become a truly special and unique way to experience the water and moon working together providing an awesome experience!

Grassroots Get Down! Farm to Table Dinner

To kick off the summer season, the Little River Waterkeeper presents the 1st annual Grassroots Get Down! Farm to Table Dinner Fundraiser on the bank of Little River at Historic Nippersink Lodge on Saturday, June 3, at 5 pm. 

Join us in celebrating our local farmers, local food, and local community! This fundraising event will showcase the incredibly talented farmers and food producers at The Farm at Windy Hill and Harvest Roots Ferments. 

Tickets are priced at $50 each and will be limited to 30. We will be serving a menu that will showcase the best of the local foods in season that Lookout Mountain has to offer. 

To top it off, we will have fun music & entertainment by Matty Croxton! 

All proceeds will go to weekly water quality monitoring and supplies. The LRWK monitors the health of 4 popular swimming holes throughout the summer. We post weekly results online so water users, get the skinny before they dip".

If you would like to get involved, we are looking for volunteers and need servers, dishwashers, set up and clean up crews.
